Mommy Tattoos are the Newest Trend

Ink Love
Nothing says motherly love like a tattoo, or does it? It used to be that men in the military who were going off to war, would pay tribute to their favorite lady by getting a tattoo of a heart with the word “Mother” or “Mom” on it. Nowadays women are getting tattoos of their newborn child’s name or image. Some even tattoo a translation of their precious little one’s name from another language.
Star Power
The popularity of these tats grew after celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts began sporting tattoos of their youngsters. Jolie famously covered the tattoo on her upper left arm of a dragon with the name of her ex, “Billy Bob” [Thornton], and replaced it with the geographical map coordinates (longitudes and latitudes) from the locations where her children were born. She also added the location of her partner, Brad Pitt’s place of birth in Oklahoma. Roberts revealed a tattoo on her lower back displaying the names of her children.
Fad or Here to Stay
The Pet Rock, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Beanie Babies are all fads of the past and no longer popular. Will mommy tattoos join them or is this the beginning of a long lasting trend? Time will tell, however, this may be a good time to learn the craft of tattoo removal because unlike other fads, tattoos are not easily disposed of.
Grandma Tats
Many young moms might think getting toddler tattoos of their sweet bundles of joy are cute now, but how will they feel when their kids are teenagers or adults, and how will their children feel about them? As one person put it, "Mothers will probably wish they had put the tattoo on their rear end when their children are acting like a pain in the behind."
Also, imagine if this were a popular trend during the Baby Boom generation, what would those mothers, who are probably now grandmothers, think of the tattoos now? Malls, grocery stores, and senior centers would be full of aging mothers showing off tattoos on their arms, legs, back, breasts and other places. Depending on where the tattoo was, a cute illustration of a cherub like baby’s face could now look like the face of a Shar-Pei!
To Tattoo or Not To Tattoo
So, are you ready to permanently ink the name or illustrated photo of your baby on your body? Well, I guess it's better than a tattoo of your husband or partner. After all, they can cheat or leave, but your children will always be your children. As for me, I think the best place to put photos of your children is on a wall, not your body.

How cool is this hub!? Very! Makes me want to see some pictures of those mommy tattoos! I have tattoos myself, and find (for the most part) when done tastefully, they are a thing of art.
Welcome to HubPages!
Cheers~
